Sheri Kabashi

GSO awardee in Developing Skilled Future Leaders in Strengthening Health and Social Systems (2024)

At the time of the GSO award, Sheri was an undergraduate student in the Honours Mathematics and Statistics program at Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ University, specializing in Statistics with a minor in Infectious Disease and Society. She previously worked as a teaching assistant for Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ’s Mathematics & Statistics department. Sheri’s academic interests lie in statistics and global health, as demonstrated through her projects on machine learning applications for predicting heart disease and ecological modeling of disease transmission dynamics. Beyond her academic pursuits, Sheri is a dedicated mentor, supporting first-year students in mathematics and statistics, and serves as a Science Ambassador, promoting STEM education.

As a Global Skills Opportunity (GSO) awardee, Sheri travelled to Kosovo to work with the Evidence Synthesis Group (ESG). During her internship, Sheri contributed to research projects focused on improving health systems for residents and healthcare professionals in Kosovo. She gained hands-on experience in evidence synthesis research, deepening her understanding of health systems in low-income countries, and enhancing her cultural competency. Sheri plans to apply these insights and her expanded global perspective to her future career as a biostatistician, contributing to evidence-based public health initiatives worldwide.
