Mijia Murong
Queen Elizabeth Scholars in Strengthening Health Systems (2018)At the time of the QE Scholarship, Mijia was an undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program, specializing in Global Health. At Â鶹ÊÓƵ she was deeply involved in equity-based programming and services, where she worked on advocating for anti-oppressive practices and uplifting marginalized voices. These experiences helped to inform her research on building the capacity of health systems to support the integrated needs vulnerable sectors, such as immigrants or seniors.
As an outbound QE scholar, Mijia travelled to Makerere University in Uganda to complete an internship with the Regional East African Community Health (REACH) Policy Initiative. Specifically, she evaluated the attributes and impact of a capacity building program in knowledge translation, through qualitative methodology. Through this work, Mijia hoped to gain some insight into the theoretical foundation behind KT activities, as well as how academic and policy-making institutions can work together to effect change in a health system.
