At the time of the QE Scholarship, Daniela was a graduate student in the Master of Science in Global Health program at Â鶹ÊÓƵ University with a specialization in Implementing Innovations on a Global Scale at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. She completed her undergraduate degree from the University of Ottawa with a Major in Linguistics and a Minor in Life Sciences. Her research interests are rooted in her passion of studying the intersectionality between humanity and science. More specifically, her parent’s migration to Canada as refugees inspired her to design a community-led project focusing on developing technology literacy for newcomers in her hometown of Moncton, New Brunswick with the Pathy Fellowship Foundation. As such, her interests in healthcare research intersect with the complexities and barriers faced by newcomers and refugees into societies.

As an outbound Queen Elizabeth Scholar, Daniela travelled to Australia to work at the Sax Institute in Sydney, NSW. She looked forward to assisting with the Secure Unified Research Environment (SURE) program in their development of synthesizing evidence for the Population Health Research Network. During her internship, she hoped to gain insight on how leading international and Australian research is synthesized and modified in response to the changing needs of policy makers and the national landscape. She hoped to help streamline and support stakeholder engagement efforts to best utilize Australia’s diverse data collections and aid efforts for international collaboration.
