Chunyi (Christie) Tan
Queen Elizabeth Scholars in Strengthening Health and Social Systems (2019)At the time of the QE Scholarship, Christie was an undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program. She worked at the Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s ForumLab as a research assistant, tasked with maintaining Health Systems Evidence (HSE) and Social Systems Evidence (SSE). These two databases are used internationally to support evidence-based policy and sparked her interest in the development of global health and health policy. Christie has clinical research experience in heart failure and transplantation at Toronto General Hospital, and has worked as a biomedical laboratory student in the Foster lab at Â鶹ÊÓƵ Children’s Hospital. She hopes to combine her experiences in clinical and biomedical settings to enhance her understanding of decision-making in healthcare.
As an outbound Queen Elizabeth Scholar, Christie interned at the Caribbean Centre for Health Systems Research and Development in Trinidad and Tobago. Her goal was to engage with different cultures, explore their ways of knowing, and to understand regional healthcare challenges in the Caribbean. This knowledge and new perspectives will be applied to her future studies in healthcare in Canada.
