Alex Dragoman

Queen Elizabeth Scholars in Strengthening Health Systems (2018)

A the time of the QE Scholarship, Alex was an undergraduate student in the Bachelor of Health Sciences program with previous experience working with elderly populations and in emergency response. His interests include exploring how healthcare can be better delivered to senior patients in response to an aging population, and how health policy can shape perspectives and responses to substance abuse and addiction.

As an outbound Queen Elizabeth Scholar, Alex travelled to the Institute of Health Systems Research (IHSR) in Selangor, Malaysia. IHSR is a WHO Collaborating Centre which provides evidence for policy decision-making in the Western Pacific Region. There, he hoped to learn more about how informed policymaking can impact healthcare quality and improve health outcomes, and how countries can develop the infrastructure to support health systems research.
