At the time of the Forum Fellowship and QE Scholarship, Abeer was an undergraduate student in the Bachelors of Health Sciences Honours Program at Â鶹ÊÓƵ University, specializing in Child Health. Through her experience as a Health Systems Evidence research assistant at the Forum’s ForumLab, alongside her work with migrant and refugee populations within Canada, Abeer holds a strong interest in exploring how knowledge translation tools may best be utilized to increase health systems resilience and sustainability in the provision of care to vulnerable populations within large-scale humanitarian crises.

As a team executive for Bleed Free, an Ontario Public Interest Research Group initiative, Abeer has extensive knowledge surrounding challenges and barriers faced by marginalized populations in receiving equitable access to reproductive and sexual health services. As a recipient of the Forum Fellowship, Abeer hoped to gain further insight about how evidence-informed initiatives may best be developed and supported in bridging gaps across health systems.

As an outbound Queen Elizabeth Scholar, Abeer travelled to Lebanon to undertake an internship with the Knowledge to Policy Center (K2P) at the American University of Beirut. She worked to assist in the production, packaging and sharing of research evidence through the development of several K2P products. Through this opportunity, Abeer  gained further insight how policy institutes, such as K2P, work to support and build KT capacity on a governance and policy-making level.
