Â鶹ÊÓƵ

Celebrating our Global Skills Opportunity program

From April 2021 to March 2025, the Â鶹ÊÓƵ has been honoured to host a physical mobility program as part of the Global Skills Opportunity (GSO). The GSO program was funded by Employment and Social Development Canada and was an integral component of the Government of Canada’s five-year International Education Strategy, Building on Success. The program hosted by the Forum was called ‘Global Skills Opportunity in Developing Skilled Future Leaders in Strengthening Health and Social Systems’ and over the past four years the program enabled emerging leaders within Â鶹ÊÓƵ University’s undergraduate community to build knowledge and skills to support health- and social-system strengthening internationally.

Through GSO, the Forum engaged 18 undergraduate students, 16 of whom were drawn from the national program’s target groups for whom international experiences have traditionally been less accessible — specifically Indigenous students, students from low-income backgrounds, and those with disabilities. Of the 18 students, 15 had combination physical-virtual experiences while three had virtual-only experiences. Our students engaged with partners in five countries including Australia, India, Kosovo, South Africa and Trinidad & Tobago.

To learn more about the experiences of the Forum’s GSO students, we encourage you to watch their webinars.
